The Unit
About Us
The Acute Neurological Rehabilitation Unit at The Wellington Hospital is the largest independent rehabilitation unit in the UK.
We provide comprehensive interdisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation programmes to patients with acquired brain injury, neurological conditions and complex medical disability (to patients aged 18 and over). The rehabilitation unit is based on the 4th, 5th and 6th floors of The Wellington Hospital North Building, and has offices, and a hydrotherapy pool on the ground floor. The unit is supported by the other services offered by The Wellington Hospital (acute services, radiology) and the location of the hospital offers access to local community resources for working on community reintegration.
Nursing and medical care is provided 24 hours a day with therapy sessions delivered between the hours of 9.00am and 5.15pm Monday to Friday, and one therapy sessions is provided if pertinent on a Saturday morning. The therapies we offer include:
We place the patients and their families at the centre of everything we do. We monitor progress through setting goals and work towards a discharge plan that is established where possible prior to admission and is appropriate for the patients’ needs and wants.
Referrals are accepted from consultants, GPs, other health professionals and self-referrals but all patients are admitted under the care of one of our admitting consultants. Funding source and duration is confirmed prior to admission. We are able to accept patients from the UK and overseas in line with our admission criteria.
